HHS Civil Rights Office Resolves HIPAA Violations

Five healthcare providers fined for non-compliance.

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Resources (HHS) announced that investigations of 5 healthcare providers for violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) have been completed. The providers did not provide healthcare records to individuals in a timely manner and non-compliance brought in a total of $322,150 in fines to OCR.

“Timely access to your health records is a powerful tool in staying healthy, patient privacy and it is your right under law,” stated OCR Director Lisa Pino. “OCR will continue its enforcement actions by holding covered entities responsible for their HIPAA compliance and pursue civil money penalties for violations that are not addressed.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Pino as she oversees the department’s civil rights office.
  • For health care providers to comply with the law as they receive requests for records.
  • For Secretary Becerra to seek God’s direction as he heads Health and Humans Services.
